Secure Server

Planetography's Web pages are served by ViaVerio, a well known Internet and web Internet Service Provider (ISP).

PayPal Credit Card Processing

Planetography uses PayPal for its credit card processing. Planetography collects order information from you for order processing, then passes this information to PayPal in a secure manner (see below). PayPal uses the information we pass to populate the fields and reduce your data entry. PayPal then collects credit card information to complete the purchase. Planetography never directly handles your credit card information for online purchases.

You have to enter the following on the PayPal page:
Credit card type
Credit card number
Expiration date
PayPal password and password confirmation
Security measure

The PayPal system requires that you create an account. PayPal will default to using the email address you entered through Planetography as your account name. You will enter a password for your account. If you already have a PayPal account from some other context, you can log into that by clicking on the Login Now button.

IMPORTANT: If you change information on the PayPal page, it will not apply to your shipping address or the email you provided us in the Planetography pages. If you need to change the shipping or email, please return to the Planetography pages to change these before submitting your order through PayPal. You can still log into a separate PayPal account with a different email.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Digital Certificates

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a mechanism used to establish a secure connection and send encrypted data between client and server. Any time Planetography or PayPal is gathering private information from you, we utilize SSL to secure the data transmission. Encryption uses 1024 bit or larger keys to protect against data interception on the Internet (the actual protocol and key length used are negotiated between your browser and the server).

Planetography and PayPal employ digital certificates to allow for verification that you are working with the sites you think you are. Digital certificates are issued by a reputable certificate authority. You can verify certificates in use by viewing the properties of the secure page (or frame). See the Frame Properties section for more information on viewing certificates.

For more information on SSL, see ViaVerio Secure Socket Layer (SSL).

Privacy

Planetography values your privacy. Planetography does not distribute any information which you provide to us. Information provided to us will be used solely for the credit card purchase and shipping of your order. Planetography will not send solicitation email to you.

PayPal also does not sell or distribute your personal data. Please see the privacy information from PayPal for more specifics.

Secure Lock Icon

Planetography uses SSL when collecting personal data from you, and for communications to the PayPal site. You should see the lock icon in your browser after you have selected to proceed with checkout from the shopping cart. The PayPal credit card entry is also protected with SSL.

Frame Properties

You can use the following to verify that the frame for data entry is secure. Note that this only works on the Order Info, Order Submit, and PayPal pages, since other pages are not secure. First, notice that 'https' is used in the URL to refer to the Order Info and Order Submit pages, and for connection to the PayPal site. Second, you can right click on any of these pages and choose the Properties menu item to see the properties of the page. (NOTE: You must right click on the data entry parts of the window which covers the majority of the lower right portion of any window. If you click on the top or right sides of the page, you are seeing frames that are not secure, and not used for data entry.)

The properties of a secure page (or frame) will show that SSL is in use, and that https was used to refer to the page. You can also check the certificates in use by clicking on the Certificates button.
